

Organic productions are more and more developed in the South-West of France.
Midi-Pyrénées is one of the regions in France allocating the largest surface area for Organic productions, which represents 11% of French agricultural lands.
In Aquitaine, almost 950 organic producers are cultivating around 26 000 hectares.
Wheat, cereals, and oilseed crops intended for animal feeding represent a large portion of the farm output in the region. Also, 35% of the national production of soya and sunflowers comes from Midi-Pyrénées which makes these productions specific for the region. In Aquitaine, oilseed crops remains very important. They represent the third of all the organic productions in the area.
All kind of animal productions are represented but both bovines and ovines remain major products. 24% of the French ovine production comes from Midi-Pyrénées which makes it the largest ovine producing region in the country. Aquitaine is more focused on its poultry production. It is the second french area regarding this production.
Market gardening is not a traditional activity in the Midi-Pyrénées but it is one of the first regions regarding the production of organic vegetables, after Brittany. Aquitaine has plenty of different fruits and vegetables and is the fourth french area for these productions.
Fruit, wine and aromatic herb productions are less developed in Midi-Pyrénées but growing as the market demand increases. However, Aquitaine has a large history regarding wine production and is nowadays the third region producing wine through an organic way.
